Buckled Tank Structural Assessment

Challenge: The client noticed a localised buckle in a process tank and was concerned that the structural capacity of the tank was compromised so that the crane supported on the top of the tank could no longer be used.
Services: Finite Element Analysis (FEA), 3D Laser scanning
Solution: The tank surface was laser scanned and the structural capacity of the tank was determined based on the scanned geometry.  Although the capacity was reduced, there was still sufficient remaining capacity to ensure the safe use of the crane on the top of the tank.
